US Navy Ships to Visit Fremantle

Four United States Navy (USN) warships are due to arrive in Fremantle on July 9, 2003 for a six day Rest and Recreation visit.
Led by the 91 000 tonne aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON, the other USN ships are the Ticonderoga class cruiser ANTIETAM, the guided missile frigate INGRAHAM and the combat support ship SACRAMENTO. CARL VINSON and SACRAMENTO will anchor in Gage Roads, while ANTIETAM and INGRAHAM will berth in Fremantle.
USS CARL VINSON is making her sixth visit to Fremantle since 1983, while SACRAMENTO will be visiting for the forth time and the INGRAHAM her third visit. For USS ANTIETAM this will be her first visit to Fremantle.
The group comprises more than 7,000 officers and sailors.
During the period 6-8 and 15-16 July, USN aircraft from the CARL VINSON will conduct flying training, which includes use of the Lancelin Defence Training Area for practice bombing and air-to-ground support practices in approved defence air space.
The ships will depart on July 14, 2003.
