American Citizen Services Fees

American Citizen Services fees worldwide are established in U.S. dollars (USD). All fees may be subject to change without notice and are non-refundable.

Special Notice

As a result of the recent fluctuation in the Australian dollar, the U.S. Embassy in Canberra has recently required several adjustments to the official exchange rate to the Australian dollar. On Thursday, October 15, the U.S. Embassy will revise the consular exchange rate. Future adjustments to the official exchange rate are anticipated, but cannot be determined in advance.

All payments in Australian dollars are subject to the current official exchange rate. We cannot accept payments for the incorrect amount, even if you have overpaid. As payments received in U.S. dollars are not affected, we encourage all payments received to be made in U.S. dollars to avoid delays in processing requested services.

The new payment will be subject to the official exchange rate, which may change after we request the new payment amount.

Dates of recent changes in the official rate of exchange:
  • October 15, 2009: Consular exchange rate revised from AUD 1.30 to AUD 1.20
  • July 6, 2009: Consular exchange rate revised from AUD 1.40 to AUD 1.30
